The UK Border Agency has temporarily re-introduced the skilled worker category for representatives of overseas newspapers, news agencies and broadcasting organizations. This category was due to end and be replaced by Tier 2.

The Government has found that some foreign media representatives do not come under Tier 2 due to the lack of a sponsor. A new more permanent solution will be introduced later in the year.

Representatives of overseas newspapers, news agencies and broadcasting organizations who are being posted to the United Kingdom can apply for the following:

• As a business visitor for a stay of up to six months in the UK.
• Those who have a sponsor based in the United Kingdom and are being posted to the United Kingdom for more than six months can apply under either the old category or Tier 2 of the points-based system.
