| Two New Policy Announcements for Tier 4 of the Points-Based System |

| In line with the launch of the sponsorship management system for Tier 4 of the points-based system on 5 October 2009, the UK Border Agency has announced new policy for Tier 4 sponsors and would-be students. If a student wants to study with a new Tier 4 sponsor, and they made their last application for a Tier 4 visa before 5 October 2009, they will continue to be allowed to change their without making a new Tier 4 application. They must, however, seek permission from the UK Border Agency to change their sponsor. |

| The British Ministers of Parliament on the Home Affairs Committee have given the new UK immigration points based system a "cautious welcome". However, they have also identified some problems with the system, in force since early last year. |

| The UK Border Agency is changing the rules for UK marriage visas. An overseas national can apply for permission to enter or remain in the United Kingdom as the husband, wife, civil partner, fiancé(e), proposed civil partner or unmarried/same-sex partner of someone who is settled (also known as indefinite leave to remain) or applying for settlement in the United Kingdom. |
| UK Tier 4 Student Category About To Be Introduced |

| The United Kingdom's points based system is about to be expanded so that from the end of this month students both adults and children will need to come under Tier 4 of the points based system. Changes to the Immigration Rules were published on 9 March 2009. From 31 March 2009 all long term students will need to come under the new UK Tier 4. |
| Important changes to the UK Knowledge of Life in the UK Test |

| Applicants applying for settlement (indefinite leave to remain in UK) in certain categories should demonstrate that the Knowledge of Life in the UK (KOL) requirement is met. From 31 March 2009, settlement applications submitted on or after this date in categories requiring KOL that do not meet this condition will be refused. Applicants will not have their fee refunded. |

| The UK Border Agency has announced that applications under many of the categories of the UK points based system will be allowed at one of the five public enquiry offices. It should be noted from the beginning of April 2009 it will be more difficult to come under Tier 1. |
