| Home Office today published the findings of the consultation paper, 'A consultation on a New Charging Regime for Immigration & Nationality Fees'. Home Office also set out the policy on a new charging regime for immigration and nationality fees and the new and proposed incountry fee levels. The new fee structure would be effective from 1 April 2007. |
| Tuberculosis testing mandatory for visa applicants in Pakistan |

| Effective 5th March, visa applicants in Pakistan applying for UK visas valid for stays longer than six months will need to provide, with their visa application, a certificate confirming that they are free from infectious tuberculosis (TB) |
| Revised guidance for work permit holders |

| Home Office (Working in the UK) issued a revised guidance for work permit holders who are nonvisa nationals with a work permit valid for six months or less. The revision pertains to entry clearance and reentry into the UK. |
| New quota for Sectors Based Scheme |

| A new quota for the Sectors Based Scheme Food Manufacturing sector, set at 3,500 permits, has now been agreed and announced by Work Permits (UK) today. The new quota applies to Bulgarian and Romanian nationals only. |
| Changes in immigration rules regarding Bulgaria and Romania |

| A Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules was issued by Home Office containing three policy changes, all of which are technical amendments necessitated by the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union on 1 January 2007. The changes were made to immigration rules relating to au pair placements, leave to enter and limited leave to remain under ECAA, and list of visa nationals. The changes will take effect on 1 January 2007. |
| Revised HSMP scheme for initial and extension applications |

| The revised Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) scheme for initial and extension applications will operate from today following a short period of suspension. HSMP scheme was suspended on Nov 7, 2006 to manage the transition to the new arrangements. |
| Changes to the immigration rules for settlement applications |

| New immigration rules regarding the demonstrating of language and citizenship knowledge for settlement purposes were announced today by Home Office. The requirement will be introduced for all applications for indefinite leave to remain posted to the Home Office on or after 2 April 2007. |
| New citizenship rights for Commonwealth soldiers in the British Armed Forces |

| Commonwealth soldiers serving in the British Armed Forces abroad can gain UK citizenship under a change to the rules announced by the Home Office today. Under the new rules they will no longer be required to complete five years residency in the UK (three years if married to or the civil partner of a British citizen) before applying to become a British citizen. |
